There are several origins given for the HATTON name and I'll give those explanations later. What I have discovered is that the name was used as far back as 662 in France with the exact spelling HATTON.

The heaviest concentration in Europe is along the coast of Portugal, Spain and France. In the Isles the heaviest is in Scotland, based on males tested thus far and present results. It appears that this family may have gone to Scotland first. There is also a high percentage though a bit more distant in Switzerland. The match in Italy is on the Templar route.
Hutton-Hatton-Hyatt Connections. We know that there is a Hatton and Hyatt connection in Tweksbury, Gloucester, England and Hutton connections in the same areas. Richard Hatton is listed once as Richard Hutton. So these names were intermingled at times.

Lyon, France was a hill-fort settlement. The name comes the Celtic God Lugus-old Irish is Lugh or Lug and now Lu an old Irish/Celtic deity.At the time of the settlement it was called Lug[o]dunon/LUGDUNUM.

HattonChatel is in the Diocese of Verdun, Loraine, France. The Abbey was founded circa 1157 and is inNorthwester, France. The order is Norbertine after the founder St. Norbet.
There are two possible connections here. First Verdun "could" be the origin of Vernon.

Pope Clement is the only Pope who did not live in Rome. He lived in Lyon and eventually tried to eliminate the Knights Templars, encourage by the King of France. Clement is a name associated with Hatton.
